Basic objectives for NHBRA are:

• Conduct research on building materials and building technology at applied level.
• Collaborate with Community Development Officers in the formulation and training of Grass-root Building Construction Teams/Brigades.
• Promote capacity building (i.e. technical, financial and managerial) of all actors involved in shelter delivery and Human Settlements Development.
• Ensure Planning, Legislation, Building Regulations, Standards and other controls are consistent, with capabilities, needs and aspirations of various sectors of the population.
• Promote the production and use of local and affordable building materials.
• Advice the Government and the Public on matters pertaining to Human Settlements.
